About Me
My name is Ken. About a year ago, I had over $17,000 in credit card debt. In spite of my wife and I both having good jobs, we were pretty much living paycheck to paycheck. I had made half hearted efforts to get out of debt without making any real progress. Then, my wife found out about the credit card debt. She is a remarkably understanding and forgiving lady, so although it was painful, we were able to preserve our marriage.
After about a week of thinking I was going to be divorced, my wife sat down with me and we worked out a plan to pay off the debt and start saving some money. Since then (August 2007) we have managed to pay off the debt and build up some savings.
If you have a lot of debt and feel trapped by it, I can’t even describe the sense of freedom and relief that comes from eliminating the debt. In my case, the stress was affecting many aspects of my life – my relationship with my wife, my blood pressure, my weight, etc.
After getting rid of the debt, I started thinking about what had led me to get so far in trouble. I realized it was not just that I had bad habits (and I had a lot) regarding money matters, I also lacked good habits.
I’ve since been working on elimination of my bad money habits (it’s a struggle sometimes) and replacing them with good ones. I hope the information here will be useful to others how would also like to free themselves from the debt trap and start living prosperously. If I can do it, so can you.
Cheers,
Ken
